What a funny guy...my oldest friend...our Mothers were best friends...neighbors in the Central West End...and Joe was at times also my best friend.
Harvard was not a good place for him, in hindsight. Plus our college years were complicted times and not so easy to get through. His mother died of cancer at home in his arms on his 19th birthday, December 21, 1968...you can't make it up...you don't recover really.
Joe married for the first time in October 1971...on a mountain top at dawn in New Hampshire...I as best man.
He was a newspaperman through and through, a reporter but not an administrator. He never had the success or recognition he should have had. After much time in St Louis, he moved to Sheridan, WY, where his widow still lives.
Joe died in March, 2015. He is survived by 4 children from 3 marriages.
